Georgia Tree Service Insurance
Georgia tree work never really stops. Tall pines that snap and uproot when the storm cells roll through, a mature urban canopy across metro Atlanta, and a season that runs all twelve months. Year-round work means year-round exposure — and tree work is already one of the hardest classes of business to insure: height, chainsaws, rigging, and a house or power line under everything you cut.
At Barbee Jackson Insurance, we insure tree services in Georgia and across 30+ states. We work the specialty markets that actually write tree work, and we build the program around how your crews actually operate.
Pines, storm cells, and the Atlanta canopy
Georgia’s risk profile has its own flavor. Pine removals near structures are high-stakes work — tall, heavy stems with tight drop zones. When severe weather moves through, storm response becomes a second business overnight: leaning pines on rooflines, hangers under tension, and sometimes a crane for the big ones. We recommend confirming storm and emergency work is contemplated in your policy before the season — and talking to your agent before the first crane job, not after.
One more Georgia note: many metro Atlanta jurisdictions have tree protection ordinances and permit requirements, and commercial and municipal clients there tend to write serious insurance requirements into their contracts. That’s where the contract fine print below stops being optional.
The Georgia tree service program
The full breakdown of the three key factors — the height limitation hiding in some policies, workers’ comp and equipment, and the contract fine print — lives on our national Tree Trimming Insurance page. Here’s the short version for a Georgia operation:
• General liability — the foundation, and hard to place for tree work. Many standard markets exclude it entirely; the specialty markets that write it are where we work. And confirm your policy’s height provisions match how high your crews actually work — on Georgia’s tall pines, a height limitation excludes your biggest jobs first.
• Workers’ compensation — tree service class codes carry some of the highest rates of any trade, with employers’ liability alongside. Climbers and bucket crews are different exposures; being classed correctly matters to both your price and your claims.
• Contractor’s equipment floater (sometimes referred to as inland marine) — for chippers, stump grinders, saws, and the mounted equipment on your bucket trucks. Blanket or scheduled; typically items valued at $2,500 or more need to be scheduled (although that can vary by carrier). And before you grind a stump, call 811 — Georgia’s buried utilities don’t announce themselves.
• Commercial auto — the bucket trucks and chip trucks themselves, plus hired and non-owned coverage for employees’ personal vehicles on business errands.
• Contract requirements — HOA, municipal, and property-management work across metro Atlanta demands additional insured status for ongoing and completed operations (CG 20 10 and CG 20 37), waiver of subrogation, primary and non-contributory wording, and umbrella limits. Send us the contract before you sign.

Frequently asked questions
Is storm cleanup work covered under my policy? It needs to be contemplated in your policy — Georgia storm response is high-volume, high-risk work, and crane use for large removals is its own conversation. We recommend confirming before the season. Send us your policy and we’ll review where you stand.
Do Atlanta-area contracts really require all those endorsements? Commercial and municipal contracts commonly require additional insured status for ongoing and completed operations, a waiver of subrogation, and primary and non-contributory wording — and a base policy carries none of that automatically. Send us the contract before you sign and we’ll confirm your policy matches.

Consummate professionals. I had forgotten to get my insurance bill in the mail and my agent called me the day before it was about to expire to let me know. I really appreciated it, he even contacted the insurance company in my stead. Thank you Nick and the team at Barbee Jackson. You make insurance as bearable as it can be in these times. Thank you.
