Crestview Homeowners Insurance

Florida Homeowners Insurance

Purchasing insurance for your home is one of the most important decisions you will make. The wrong company or coverage can leave you and your family unprotected when you need it the most. One of the most common problems we find with home insurance is that in an attempt to save the customer money, the agent left off very valuable coverage without explaining why you need this coverage. At Barbee Jackson Insurance our number one priority is finding the right policy to fit your needs. We will discuss the coverage options and ways to save money.

Often times, the homeowners’ insurance continues to renew every year without evaluation since the mortgage company makes the payment, it just continues on. People have come to us after years have gone by at higher rates because they trusted their agent was reviewing it for them. It is our practice to review every home policy upon renewal to ensure we have the best option in place, if we find you something better we will call you to discuss!

Commonly Asked Questions

Is the insurance through a good company?

This is one of the most common questions we get, and definitely a valid one. The last thing you should have to worry about after a catastrophic claim is if the company will be able to pay it. We only work with “A” Rated carriers that are admitted in the State of Florida. That means, the company pays a large bond to the state to be backed by them. In the unlikely event the carrier was to go bankrupt, the state of Florida will step in and pay the claims. Furthermore, all our carriers have been in business since the last hurricane over 11 years ago! This means they have been through the storm and are strong enough to continue writing business.

Do I need a wind mitigation inspection?

Depending on when your home was built, as well as custom features, you may not. The building codes changed for Florida in 2001, so any home with a build date of 2002 or newer will automatically receive the credits required by the area. If your home is 2001 and older, a wind mitigation is advisable as it usually provides a significantly larger savings than the cost of the inspection. If your home was built in 2002 or newer you probably don’t need one. The only reason to spend the money is if you know you have features on the home greater than what the building code requires. An example would be; secondary water resistance on the roof or hurricane impact protection on all openings for a home that is not in the wind borne debris region.

Do I need to purchase Flood Insurance Even though my Home not in a Flood Zone?

The simple answer is YES. Floods can occur everywhere. Even though your mortgage company may not require you to purchase Flood Insurance it is in your best interest to do so. The best part is it’s very affordable. Homeowners pay as low as $425 per year.

I Heard you get a Discount for having a Hip Roof and I’m not sure if my House Qualifies.

Gable roof lines slop inward on two side forming a triangle shape. Hip roofs slop inward on all side forming a pyramid. Hip roofs in Florida get a substantial discount by the insurers because it has been proven to be more resistant to high winds such as hurricanes.

Why do Brick Veneer Homes get a Discount?

Home insurance premiums are influenced by hundreds of factors and the type of siding used is just another example. Homeowners get a discount on their insurance for homes that are over 75% brick veneer. It’s been proven that homes with frame construction/vinyl siding will have substantially more damage than homes with frame construction/brick veneer after a hurricane. For this reason, Home Insurance Providers will give a discount for reduced exposure to high winds.
