Georgia Restaurant Insurance
From Atlanta’s dining scene to the college towns and the coast, Georgia restaurants run the same core risks as restaurants everywhere — fire, slips, spoilage, alcohol — with a few Georgia-specific wrinkles that decide how a program should be built.

We’re Barbee Jackson Insurance — independent, licensed in 30+ states, and we insure restaurants across Georgia.

The Georgia Factors
The workers’ comp rule. Georgia requires workers’ compensation from employers that regularly employ three or more persons — and part-time staff count toward the three. For a restaurant, that’s nearly everyone: a cook and two part-time servers puts you in. Exempted corporate officers still count toward the threshold.

Liquor liability, Georgia edition. Serve, sell, or cater alcohol and you need liquor liability — general liability won’t respond to alcohol claims for a business in the alcohol business. Local ordinances across Georgia also shape hours and service rules; our Liquor Liability Insurance page covers the coverage side.

Severe weather and spoilage. Georgia’s storm seasons — hail, straight-line wind, the occasional tropical remnant — make equipment breakdown, spoilage, and business income coverage more than fine print. When the power goes out on a summer Friday, the walk-in is the claim.

The Atlanta lease. Commercial landlords in the metro area write real insurance requirements into leases: specific limits, additional insured status, certificates before keys. Send us the lease before you sign and we’ll match the program to it — and get the certificate out within five minutes during normal business hours unless a change is required.

What Does It Cost in Georgia?
The usual drivers: square footage and build-out, sales and alcohol mix, cooking style, claims history, delivery, and location — a Buckhead lease and a small-town main street price differently. Call us with your real numbers: (850) 389-2001.

Frequently Asked Questions
When does a Georgia restaurant need workers’ comp? When you regularly employ three or more persons — part-timers and exempted owners count. That threshold catches nearly every working restaurant in the state.

Do I need liquor liability for beer and wine only? If you serve alcohol at all, yes — the claim doesn’t distinguish between a cocktail and a pint, and general liability excludes it either way.

What should my lease’s insurance section make me check? The required limits, additional insured wording for the landlord, and the certificate deadline. We read leases against policies every week — send it before you sign.

How fast can I get a certificate of insurance? Within five minutes during normal business hours unless a change is required. (850) 389-2001.
