Georgia Funeral Home Insurance
Georgia regulates a funeral firm twice — and most owners only think about one of the two. Establishment and funeral director licensing runs through the State Board of Funeral Service; preneed registration runs separately through the Secretary of State under the Cemetery and Funeral Services Act. Everything on our national funeral home page applies here; this is the Georgia layer.
The Georgia Factors
Two regulators, one firm. The Funeral Service Board licenses the establishment and the professionals in it; the Secretary of State’s cemeteries division registers preneed sellers. If your firm sells preneed, you answer to both — and the funds families entrust ahead of need make crime and employee dishonesty coverage a core line, with the trust rules as the legal backdrop.
The workers’ comp trigger is three. Georgia requires workers’ compensation from employers that regularly employ three or more persons — part-time staff count, and exempted officers still count toward the three. A director, an embalmer, and a part-time visitation attendant puts you in.
Metro and rural firms price differently. An Atlanta-area firm runs higher property values, heavier procession traffic, and bigger fleets; a rural South Georgia firm runs longer removal distances and older buildings. Both are Georgia — the program should be priced to how yours actually runs.
Summer storms and the building. Hail and straight-line wind take out power and roofs across Georgia every year — the property values conversation (and the business income terms behind it) is the one to have before the season, not after.
