Florida Restaurant Insurance
Running a restaurant in Florida means everything on our national restaurant page — plus a hurricane season that can close you for weeks, a tourism economy that makes your busy season everything, and one of the country’s most active litigation environments sitting in your dining room. Your program should be priced for Florida, not for a template.
We’re Barbee Jackson Insurance — headquartered in Florida, independent, licensed in 30+ states, and Florida restaurants are a class we quote every week.
The Florida Factors
Named storms and your property policy. Florida restaurant property coverage lives and dies on the wind and flood details: your windstorm deductible (often a percentage, not a flat number), whether flood is covered at all (usually a separate policy — and storm surge is flood, not wind), and what your policy expects from you when a storm is named. Know all three before June 1, because you can’t buy your way out of a storm that’s already on the map.
Business income, hurricane edition. A storm that closes the neighborhood can close you without touching your building — and whether business income responds depends on your policy’s terms, including civil authority coverage when evacuation orders empty your zip code. This is the most Florida conversation in restaurant insurance, and we have it with every client.
Spoilage is a Florida coverage. Extended power outages after storms turn every walk-in into a claim. Confirm spoilage and equipment breakdown coverage — with limits that reflect what’s actually in your coolers in season.
Liquor liability. If you serve alcohol in Florida, this is its own conversation with its own market — see our Florida liquor liability page.
Workers’ comp. Florida sets coverage thresholds by employee count and industry — tell us your real staffing, seasonal swings included, and we’ll confirm exactly what applies.
What Does It Cost in Florida?
Location moves the number more here than most states — coastal wind zones, South Florida litigation, and tourist-district property values all price differently than inland markets. Beyond location: sales and alcohol mix, cooking style, build-out value, claims history, delivery. Call us with your real numbers: (850) 389-2001.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does my Florida restaurant policy cover hurricane damage? Wind is typically covered subject to your windstorm/hurricane deductible — often a percentage of building value. Flood and storm surge generally require separate flood coverage. The details of YOUR form are the answer, and we review them with every Florida client before season.
Will insurance pay my bills if a hurricane closes my restaurant? That’s business income coverage — and whether it responds to your scenario (direct damage, or a civil-authority closure with no damage) depends on your policy’s specific terms. This is exactly the review to do before season, not after.
Is spoilage covered after a power outage? Only if spoilage coverage is on the policy, and terms vary on how the outage happens. In Florida, we treat spoilage as a first-class coverage, not a throw-in.
How fast can I get a certificate of insurance? Within five minutes during normal business hours unless a change is required. (850) 389-2001.
